Report on HPCL Visit of Class XII

On 23rd October 2013, GGIS visited Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Navi Mumbai. Students of class 12, Science and Commerce, accompanied by Mrs. Dhruvi Bhatia and Tushar Sir, started from school at 8:00 am. It was fun in the bus, everyone was singing or playing, some were listening to music and some just enjoyed the scenic beauty.

All the students and the teachers as well were power packed with ebullience and ecstasy. We reached the plant at 3:00 sharp and were served lunch. After the students regained all the energy, they went on with two of the very knowledgeable employees who showed the plant and its working.

Their first visit was to the classroom where they made everyone aware of how the plant works and the ingredients used in preparation the oil and petrol. The students first saw the inventory control where packaging and stock labeling is done in huge quantities. Next was the visit to the warehouse, a huge place which had thousands of drums of oil and petrol, and then to the drum filling department and then to finished product packaging control. The company has a systematic manner of filling drums by distributing its finished products into small and large cans and even drums. HPCL is an eco-friendly company as it reduces the emission of any harmful material into the atmosphere during the process of production or after it is dispatched and when it is ready to use. This is a highly esteemed industry that is producing 70% oil and petrochemicals. It has the responsibility of supplying oil all over India. This industry is well planned for future and exceedingly systematic as well as punctual - the company plans even a period of shutdown for a particular branch well in advance.

The fun was now about to end as all the GGians reached back to where they started from. The students and teachers were served snacks and then a vote of thanks was given by Mihir, a student. The group departed from Mumbai at 6:00 pm. Everyone was fatigued. But an hour later, the energy was regained and all the students sang, played and enjoyed. They discussed about the trip and the response from all of them was positive. The educational jaunt was finally over after the group returned to school. It was a productive and influential
